AJ Johnson’s strong summer of bowling has finally helped him climb to the top of the FloBowling PBA Summer Tour points list as six events have now been contested.
Johnson, who finished in 19th place at the PBA Bowlerstore Classic on Friday, moved into the top spot with 4,585 points. His finish in Coldwater, Ohio, was just high enough to push him ahead of previous leader Kyle Sherman.
Sherman sits in second place with 4,525 points, just 60 points off the lead, after missing the cut and finishing in 45th place in Coldwater.
Bill O’Neill is third with 4,390, while Jakob Butturff used a third-place finish in Coldwater to move up to fourth with 4,330.
Sean Rash, who finished second on Friday, is fifth with 4,200 points, and Coldwater winner Tommy Jones jumps into the top eight for the first time this season with 4,110, good enough for sixth.
EJ Tackett and BJ Moore round out the top eight, while Tom Daugherty and Andrew Anderson dropped out.
The top eight players in points will earn spots in the FloBowling ATX Invite, a special event to be held in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 21. Those eight will also earn spots in the PBA China Tiger Cup, an event that will be held in November. The top five will cash in the special USBC Cup prize list.
The FloBowling PBA Summer Swing next week will finalize the points standings with three events taking place in a six-day stretch. The PBA Illinois Open will be the final event of the Summer Swing and the Summer Tour and will feature double points.
